The Hill

The hill is the place

Each morning we face

As we go to nursery and school

The hill is the walk

Each morning we talk

In the sunrise air of cool

The hill is the one

Where we often have fun

As we chatter and chase our friends

It’s a walk up and down

A view to the castle in town

It’s a snake with a couple of bends

The hill is where we tidy our hair

If we haven’t done so yet

We think of our plans

The final wee chance

To remember what we might forget

The hill always has chatter

Everyone’s natters, they matter

As the boys and girls race by

We mostly hear smiling

And not much whining

But if you fall it’s ok to cry

The hill has an end

A class with your friends

Where the values are essential

The teachers, the grounds

The highs up and down

It’s a path to reaching potential

The hill is a place

Each afternoon we race

To get home or to clubs or to tea

It’s where we began

Where we thought of a plan

It’s made us who we all could be

The hill

There’s The Hedge

Massive, green, grass round the edge

We zoom round it

And through it each day

Over the branches we travel

As our parents unravel

“Where are they?”

“Last minute of play!”

The hill points the direction

Walk strong, with conviction

Show the values: always in mind

Good mornings, good byes

Smiles using your eyes

Try hard, be truthful, be kind
